The Pitch Fanzine

The Pitch Fanzine is a movement and media brand, in the U.K. advertising creative industry.

The inclusive platform was founded in 2015 by Sherry Collins (her / us) to challenge inequality, discrimination, and the lack of diversity in the advertising creative industry (adland), while simultaneously showcasing outstanding creative talent in Pitch magazine.

Since then, The Pitch Fanzine has grown into a bigger platform, including Pitch magazine, Pitch conversations, campaigns, education programmes, and creative consultancy.

The Pitch Fanzine network includes global brands, advertising agencies, production companies, animation companies, edit suites, post houses, sound studios, talent agencies, investors, creative industry leaders, brand founders, marketers, agency executives, creatives, strategists, commercial directors, filmmakers, photographers, producers, editors, sound designers, graphic designers, art directors, copywriters, activists, writers, makers, creators, award bodies, and other industry media.

The Pitch Fanzine is fully-independent and funding is sought and raised from partnerships with brands who share the same ethos and values.

Sherry Collins (her / us)

Sherry Collins (her / us), Jamaican Freedom Fighter, is the award-winning founder, editor, writer, and creative innovator of The Pitch Fanzine.

Sherry is an industry leader in the advertising creative industry and was honoured with the 2020 Creative Circle President’s Award for her “Extraordinary and inspiring work in promoting diversity, inclusivity, and equality in our industry.”

Sherry started out in publishing soon after graduating from London College of Fashion in 2001. Sherry later moved into production as a runner on the Tim Burton film, Corpse Bride, and went on to produce commercials, music videos, and short films. In 2009, Sherry paused her career to spend time with her children during their early years.

Initiatives

In 2017 Sherry launched Pitch Futures to inspire and educate primary school children about the opportunities available to them in the creative industries.

Sherry launched Pitch Superwomen in 2017, acknowledging women working behind the scenes in the advertising creative industry, and Pitch Supermen (launched in 2020), to champion male allies supporting women. Over 600 Super People have celebrated their nominations so far.

Each year, Sherry Collins invites and champions 10 Super Alumni, who in turn nominate their 10 Super People. 100 Super People are promoted with super covers on social, in our Wednesdays at 2:30pm Newsletter, and on The Pitch Fanzine platform throughout May, welcoming them to The Pitch Fanzine movement.

Campaigns

An anti-racism activist, Sherry launched #AssumeNothing, in 2018, the campaign highlighted the racism Black women have faced when attending the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity each year, one of the industry’s most prestigious events. This campaign was reported by various news outlets, including the BBC.

In 2019 Sherry launched Pitch Our Stories with Sky. Sherry worked with local authorities and youth centres across London, meeting with and inviting talent to submit their stories for an invitation to special open days held at Sky. Over 160 people attended and were given the opportunity to meet with Sky Marketing Group, share their stories, and apply for available opportunities and internships.

In April 2020, Sherry launched Why bother about racism?, the Sundays at 2:30pm Storyletters series, focusing on race and racism, which follows Sherry’s story creating The Pitch Fanzine.

In the same year, Sherry launched, Life Lessons Learned, charting her journey growing up in Jamaica from age 6 to 13, and her time in adland years later.

Pitch Magazine and Mentoring

Sherry publishes a special issue of her magazine in September, Pitch Cool or Pitch Mavericks, championing leaders, who are doing good for their communities and the world.

Sherry mentors over 180 new creative talent entering the industry in her monthly Fridays at 2:30pm Newsletter, and in intimate conversations, offering insights on The Key to getting ahead in the advertising creative industry.

On Wednesdays at 2:30pm (GMT), Sherry shares her journey creating The Pitch Fanzine.

Sherry Collins is leading The Pitch Fanzine’s network of inclusive super creative people to uplift, inspire, and share knowledge with the Jamaican people and the world, creatively.

And save the planet.

We are in a knowledge revolution.
